SMLXL

This series emerged from a set of works i made in 2015, and is helping me work through a number of consecutive surgeries. It's my depiction of the pain and chaos I was experiencing in 2015/16. Post surgery, I saw people with strings emerging from their mouths, shoulders, etc. in all directions and colours. Painting seemed the right medium to respond to this strange way of seeing. The canvases are masked, painted and sewn into. The paint is ground. There are objects sewn into the canvases - sieves, chopsticks and plastic knives and forks. small is viewed both front and back, and could be hinged to the wall. medium has a cardinal perched on it, stern and protective. large (2017, 24" x 30"), above, is a reeling ball of fire at a cosmic dinner table, with a second canvas keeping it together.
